Nobody downloads a birthday candle for themselves. A candle is something you give. That one observation changed what e-Candle is.
Our friends live across the country, and across the world. Birthdays don’t wait for everyone to be in the same room. So the question became: how do you hand someone a candle when you’re not there?
Designed from the receiver’s side
We started where the surprise lands. A message arrives from someone who loves you, and before you open it the preview already says it: “You’ve been sent a card 💌”, with a cake waiting. That flicker of “someone sent me something” is pure curiosity. You tap. The card opens in your browser. The candles are lit. You blow, and they go out.

No app to install, no account, nothing to sign. Whoever receives a card never has to do anything except enjoy it. Receiving is always free.
The card around the candle
Version 2, in October 2026, made the gift whole: a cake you build, a card from 21 designs, your message and a song. You send it over WhatsApp, Messages or email, and their reaction can come back to you.
It works. 55% of people who open a shared card on the web blow the candles out. They don’t just look at it; they take part.
What it left us with
- Ask who the product is really for. Here it was two people: the one sending and the one receiving.
- Design the moment that gets shared. That’s where growth comes from.
- Remove every step between the surprise and the smile. No app, no account, no price for the person receiving.
